In Memory of our Dear Friend

David Lawrence Cook

(12.23.1932 - 11.7.2010)

While I was a student at BYUH and worked at the School of Education, I had the good fortune of meeting this wonderful couple - the Cooks. They have become my dear friends, mentors, and my parents and grandparents in Hawaii. They met Keith and were our examples of perfect marriage and relatioship to us as we dated, got engaged and got married.

They were at our wedding, and then came back to Hawaii when we got sealed. They became a family to us - well, they adopted us and invited us into their family with open arms and loving hearts. They taught us to love and respect each other with their example and love towards each other. 

He even taught me a phrase "Yes Dear" which I told Keith about and even said he was supposed to say it and not me.  Brother Cook just smiled. 

Every trip we made to Utah, we made sure we visited with them so we could feel of their love and kindness.

 We have so many wonderful memories of this amazing father, grandfather, patriarch and dear friend.

When we learned the Air Force was sending us to Utah, we were so very happy that we would live close to them - they were happy for us as well.

We spent our first Thanksgiving and our first Christmas in Utah with them and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

When we learned we were having a small one in our family, they were overjoyed for us and told us stories of their family and their children. When our little one arrived, we were happy to introduce him to his Utah grandparents. We are glad he got to meet our little one, hold him and play with him.  We do hope that some of his wonderful spirit has rubbed off on him.

Our little one was always happy to be held by grandpa Cook as he talked to him and told him stories and intently listened to his soothing and kind voice.  

We are glad he got to meet his grandpa Cook as well - hope our little one will be half as a good man as our dear friend Lawrence Cook has been.  We miss you and we do hope we will be worthy to be in your presence again someday.
