Week of the Eagles (Part One)

The Week of the Eagles.

What is the Week of the Eagles? It is a celebration of the history and accomplishments of the 101st Airborne Division. The storied and famed "Screaming Eagles." Based at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the post is split along the Tennesse and Kentucky border, but the Post Office is in Kentucky, so it is Fort Campbell, KY.

I was accompanied on the journey by my childhood friend Chris, who is also a fellow veteran of the 327th Infantry Regiment. We really wanted to see what had changed in the twenty years since we were assigned to Fort Campbell. More importantly, it is the 20th anniversary of our return from Desert Storm. We both arrived back at Fort Campbell on 11 April 1991. Not a lot of people were around who where there then, besides us, we could count the others on two hands!

The Bastogne Brigade "Honor and Country." The 327th Infantry Regiment was formed in 1917 during the first World War. The Brigade/ Regiment has an incredable history that includes combat service in WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and most recently during Operation Enduring Freedom, in Kunar Afghanistan, where fifty-five of its members fell in defense of each other and our nation.

Chris served in the 3rd Battalion 327th Infantry Regiement. Much to his dismay, the 3rd Battalion was deactived in 2004 and replaced by the 1st Battalion 32 Cavalry. I was attached to 1/32 Cav during their first deployment to Iraq in 2005-06 while serving with 1/3/5 Military Transition Team (MTT). So I have served in two different wars with the Brigade.

Here I am in front of my old company. I also served in HHC, but spent the majority of my time from January 1989 to September 1992 with Bravo Company.

This was the first day of our week at Fort Campbell and I have to say it was amazing! A real trip down memory lane and a lot of new memories of a great week with my friend and our brothers and sisters who are serving in the 327th Infantry today!
