On the way to dinner we detoured a little to visit a historic sight. Kind of like the old days when we would drive somewhere to see what was there. I had passed a sign on the way to see Chimge at (Name withheld) that said, "Birthplace of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division." I thought it would be cool to see the sight. After all I served with the 101st Airborne Division from 1989 to 1992, to include deploying with the Division for "Operation Desert Storm." So the 101st hold a special place in my memory and heart.

This plaque is at the site of the original headquarters flag pole. It says that on May 7, 1942 Sgt Alvin C. York address the 82nd Division, then under the Command of MG Omar Bradley. The Division later became the 82nd Airborne Division and from the 82nd Airborne Division, troops were taken and the 101st Airborne Division was born.

It was a short visit, not a lot left to see, but it was cool to find something like that out in the middle of no where and that the sight was preserved.
